So turns out the area I'm in is actually super interesting, I know I've talked about the witches before buttttt I found out a lot more so I wanted to share cause I think it's super interesting.
So a little background, one of the ways we find people on Facebook is just to have normal conversations with people! I joined a hiking group for people in my area and asked for some hiking recommendations, and then just started conversations with people based off of that. A lot of people recommended I hike Pendle Hill, I hiked it a couple weeks ago and then we also hiked it last week cause of all the recommendations and since Elder Sewell hasn't been up yet. And it turns out Pendle Hill has a ton of history
Basically Pendle Hill is super famous for witches (I talked about that a while ago), but there was a huge movement forever ago in the town of Pendle and a ton of witches were executed. They were all supposedly meeting on top of Pendle hill in the middle of the night and doing some sort of witchcraft. Apparently theres a bunch of movies written about it haha, It's kinda creepy stuff.
Sidenote, when I retire I want to move to Pendle.
But also it all gave me a flashback to high school US history (shoutout to Mrs. Major! and the cage fighters haha) Because another person I was messaging told me that the founder of the Quakers (a religion), George Fox, had a vision on top of Pendle hill that led to him starting the religion! And the Quakers are pretty famous for settling in pennsylvania like 400 years ago, so I just thought that was really cool cause a lot of them came from Pendle which is in my area!
Today we also went on a hike to another place in our area, the Tolkien trail! It was 7 miles long and insanely muddy, I literally lost my shoes like 8 times. Basically JRR Tolkien (the author of Lord of the Rings & the Hobbit) lived in Lancashire during World War 2, and was inspired a lot by the scenery to write Lord of the Rings! So we went on a hike that shows a lot of the places he may have been inspired by, it was really cool
The hike also has a portion where you walk alongside the River ribble, which is where the first baptisms for the church in the UK happened! so thats another little fun history fact
Anyways that's enough history for today haha. But hopefully you all got to watch President Nelson's message of hope/healing he gave last week! It was honestly amazing and literally just what I needed to hear. If you didnt have the chance to watch it, hit this link, you won't regret it!
And sorry this email is kinda long so I'll be done here
